We recently worked with stylist and friend, Megan Murray, on our latest campaign Silk ‘24. We sat down with Megan to chat about her favourite looks from the campaign and how she’s styling them this season.
Q. Firstly, tell us a little about yourself!
My Name is Megan. I'm an Australian fashion Stylist and Creative Director.
I live and work between Australia and Europe. My work has a strong influence from film, travel and early/modern photography.
Q. What was your journey to becoming a stylist?
I've always had an innate love of fashion and creativity. When I was growing up, it was painting, drawing and playing dress up - anything where I could turn my imagination into reality.
I always had my own style or dressed for how I felt. I think a lot of people noticed this and from there, brands and friends would ask me to style for them and it kind of just snowballed from that. I think with styling it's something you have an eye for, not always something that can be taught
Q. You’re currently based in Byron - what is your favourite way to spend a weekend there?
Weekends in Byron normally consist of:
Coffee in Bangalow.
A morning surf.
Post surf smoothie from B smoothie bar.
Brunch or lunch at Rae's cellar bar - I'm a sucker for their aperol spritz, native oysters and fries.
Sunset swim at Wategos.
And to finish off the day with a home cooked meal and movie with my best friends / loved ones.
Q. You get to travel a lot for your work - where has been your favourite shoot location to date?
This is a hard one to answer as I've shot in so many beautiful locations and each one is unique to itself. One that stands out is a spanish island called Lanzorte, it truly feels like you're on Mars with its rocky volcanic landscape, it's breathtaking and I haven't seen any other place like it. Not to mention the beaches are magical and the food insanely good, needless to say it left a lasting impression.
Q. What are your ideal pieces to build a capsule wardrobe?
I love a crisp button up, a great pair of tailored pants and quality basics. These are my usual suspects to create a polished outfit. I'm also a sucker for a blazer - which I normally thrift from the mens section (I even used one of these for styling in our most recent campaign together).
I like to invest in quality timeless pieces, but it's also good to remember you don't always need to spend a lot of money to do so.
Q. How are you styling the latest pieces from The Bali Tailor?
The Elka Skirt - I've mostly been pairing back with a button up shirt. The top three buttons closed, and the rest open or worn tucked in and unbuttoned (styled in the campaign).
The Dara Top - with a low rise wide pant, for an effortless look.
The Jones Bag - with everything, I'm truly obsessed.
Q. What is the hero piece in your wardrobe you couldn’t live without?
Don't ask me this. How could I ever answer? It's like asking a parent who's their favourite child haha
