Our Director’s Guide to Bali

Q. What do you love most about island living?

Bali truly is such a welcoming island so it’s not long before people feel it their home away from home - the people, the culture, the hidden untouched gems of the island, and the way in which the local people are able to live so in the moment, with gratitude for what they have right now - it is all so inspiring to me. The people, their humbleness and beautiful smiles, and their genuine hospitality, to welcome anyone and everyone back every single time.

The island of Bali also plays host to such a large expat community, with so many amazing creatives living here and immersing in it all, and doing and living a life they truly love. There is a real sense of freedom here and being around that energy is so uplifting and inspiring - it is hard not to love the island life here.

Q. Where are your top 3 favourite places to stay?

I’m going to mix up locations here… it’s definitely a mix between Desa Potato Head, Seminyak, and Mu’s & Temple Lodge, and The Surf at Bingin, and (gosh it is hard to choose just 3) but the Young Villas in Canggu. They are all so beautifully designed for the perfect island stay in comfort and style.

Q. Where is your favourite beach to spend the day?

I love exploring all of the beaches along the coastline in the Bukit - Bingin has forever been a favourite, yet Balangan and Thomas Beach have become my most recent favourites because they are still a little quieter and have that real true Bali feel - a day at Sundays Beach Club, or Palmilla always makes for a beautiful day with great vibes too.

Q. Where would we find the best meal in Bali?

Sooo many amazing places to eat but I’m going to say Shelter in Pererenan, the new Mason Restaurant in Uluwatu and Yuki in Canggu, for the yummiest Japanese in the most relaxed of settings!

Q. Favourite spot to watch the sunset?

I’ll keep my absolute favourite a secret, but you cannot go past watching it on the beach in Bingin, followed by the yummiest fish bbq, barefoot at Lucky Fish - so yummy!

Q. Where do we find the best shopping in Bali?

I’m going to say mixed between Seminyak and Canggu - everything has really bounced back again post the 2020-22 years, and it is so exciting to see it all buzzing again!

Q. What are your go to podcasts?

Sarah Grynburg - A Life of Greatness, and The Briefing, to keep me in the loop on anything I need to know that is happening in our world, and I can’t go past Oprah’s Soulful Conversations as well.

Q. What pieces are currently making up your Summer wardrobe?

I always reach for the Adel Mini Dress as it is such an easy shape to style up or down, the Riley Shirt Dress as well as the Maison Blouse for an everyday easy wear, and my collection of pareos - I love styling them for everyday wear (if La Niña can give us a little break!)
